Objectives: To report a case of a bilateral serous retinal detachment due to corticosteroids treated with vitrectomy.
Case: We present a 56-year-old male with a history of bone marrow transplant who was receiving corticosteroids; that intercourse with a bilateral serous retinal detachment with a severe fibrin exudation. We diagnose it as an atypical presentation of a central serous chorioretinopathy. Due to the continuous deterioration and the impossibility to interrupt his corticosteroid treatment, we decided to perform a complete pars plana vitrectomy with C3F8 to drain the dense subretinal fluid with acceptable visual outcomes.
Conclusion: Pars plana vitrectomy is a valid treatment for severe serous retinal detachments.
